A few specific fixes for cheese-shop.co.uk

The Cheese Shop · Bradford-on-Avon · website rebuild

I rebuild small-business sites in my own time when I can see they are leaving something on the table. I spent ten minutes on cheese-shop.co.uk and three things stood out, all on the parts of the site that should be doing the most work for a cheesemonger with this much to show. Three findings below, then a working rebuild you can click through.

Three findings, from ten minutes on the live site

What twenty years on Market Street is currently leaving on the table.

A walk-through of the live cheese-shop.co.uk on 1 June 2026. None of these is a redesign for its own sake, each is a thing the shop already owns that the site is not showing.

01

The footer still reads "© 2015 by The Cheese Shop", so a shop trading since 2006 reads online as if it shut years ago.

What I saw
The current cheese-shop.co.uk is a Wix template whose footer line is "© 2015 by The Cheese Shop. Proudly created with Wix." The page title is the default "HOME | thecheeseshop", with no town, no trade and no "since 2006". For a shop that has been on Market Street for twenty years, the most recent date a visitor can see anywhere on the site is 2015, which reads like a business that has been left behind.
In the rebuild
The rebuild leads with The Cheese Shop, Bradford-on-Avon and "since 2006" in the title and the hero, carries a current copyright line, and tells the twenty-year story up front so the site reads as alive as the shop is.
02

There is no Store or LocalBusiness structured data, so Google never reads the Market Street address, the hours or the founding as facts.

What I saw
The only structured data on the site is a generic WebSite block. There is no Store or FoodEstablishment type, no PostalAddress for 5 Market Street, no opening hours for Tuesday to Saturday, no 2006 founding date and no og:image, so shared links unfurl blank. The strongest facts the shop owns, where it is, when it is open, how long it has been there, are present as text but invisible to a machine reading the page.
In the rebuild
The rebuild ships a Store plus FoodEstablishment graph with the full Market Street postal address, the telephone in E.164 form, the Tuesday-to-Saturday hours, the 2006 founding, a real shopfront og:image and a FAQPage built from what customers ask at the counter.
03

A cheesemonger is one of the most visual trades there is, yet the cheese, the ham and the cheese cakes appear only as small, blurred gallery thumbnails.

What I saw
The cheese counter, the local award-winning free-range ham, the charcuterie and the celebration cheese cakes are described in a sentence or two and shown only as small, transformed gallery thumbnails (around 150 to 300 pixels wide, served behind a blur placeholder), even though the original photographs are full resolution. There is no way to see the counter at a glance, and no way to order a board, a cheese cake or a hamper online.
In the rebuild
The rebuild puts the real shopfront and counter photography full-bleed, breaks the shop into four readable counters (cheese, deli, larder, cheese cakes and hampers), and adds an order-ahead form for boards, cakes and hampers.

The close

If the proposal lands, reply with two or three 20-minute slots in the next ten days for a video call. I take on three West Country builds this quarter, and first confirmed wins the slot. If I do not hear back by 11 June, the proposal site comes down.
